Terms of use
The deal, in plain terms.
EdQuest Incorporated is a 501(c)(3) non-profit. This page covers using the site, holding an account, taking a class, and giving money.
Version 2026-08-11
Using this site
You are welcome to read anything here, link to it, and share it. Do not attack the site, scrape it in a way that degrades it for other people, or use it to send anybody anything unlawful, harassing, or deceptive.
Your account
- You must be 13 or older to hold an account. Everything essential works without one.
- Give accurate details. We use your email to send registration confirmations, class reminders, and receipts, so a wrong address means you miss them.
- Your sign-in is yours. Do not share it, and tell us if you think somebody else has it.
- You can close your account whenever you like. See the privacy policy for exactly what that removes and the one thing it does not.
- We may suspend an account that is being used to harass people or to disrupt a class. We will tell you why.
Classes and events
- Registering holds you a seat. Seats are limited, and where a class is full we may put you on a waitlist and email you if a place opens.
- If you cannot make it, cancel so somebody else can have the seat.
- We may cancel or reschedule a session, for weather, illness, or too few registrations. We will email everybody registered, and where a fee was paid we will refund it.
- A children's class is registered by a parent or guardian, who is responsible for the details they give us and for the child at the session.
- Some classes are held at fire stations and other working facilities. Follow the instructions of the staff there.
Certificates and course completion
A certificate records that you completed one of our courses on a date. It is not a professional licence, a qualification issued by a fire authority, or a substitute for training your employer requires. Anyone you show it to can check it against the code printed on it. If you delete your account, the certificate is deleted too, and that check stops working.
Donations
- EdQuest Incorporated is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, and donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
- Donations are made through our payment processor. We send a receipt to the email address you give.
- Gifts are generally not refundable, because they have usually already gone to the work. If something went wrong - a duplicate charge, the wrong amount, a payment you did not make - tell us and we will put it right.
- Where a donation is for a specific campaign, we will use it for that purpose. If a campaign cannot go ahead we will use it for the closest thing and say so.
- We keep a record of every donation indefinitely, including after an account is closed, and federal rules require us to keep contribution records for at least five years. That is a legal obligation, not a preference, and a gift to a charity cannot be withdrawn from the record.
Volunteering
The volunteer log is your own record of hours you gave. The dollar figure shown against it is the standard published value of volunteer time, used for our reporting and your records. It is not payment, it is not owed to you, and volunteer time is not tax-deductible under US law. Hours are self-reported and we may correct an entry that is clearly wrong.
Safety material
Our fire-prevention and safety content is education for the general public. It is written carefully, but it cannot account for your building, your equipment, or what is happening in front of you right now. It is not professional advice, an inspection, or a code ruling. For a decision that matters, ask your local fire department or a qualified professional.
In an emergency, call 911. Do not use this site, a message form, or an email to report one.
Our content, and yours
The material on this site, including course content, slides, and our branding, belongs to EdQuest Incorporated. You may use it for your own learning and share links to it. Ask us before republishing it or using it commercially, and we will usually say yes.
What you send us - a message, a note on a registration, a volunteer entry - stays yours. We use it to do the thing you sent it for.
Where this leaves us
We run this site carefully but we cannot promise it is always available or always free of mistakes. To the extent the law allows, EdQuest Incorporated is not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from using the site. Nothing here limits any right you have that cannot be limited, and nothing here limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence.
When these terms change
These terms carry the same version number as the privacy policy, shown at the top of the page. If we make a substantive change, the version changes and we ask you to read it again the next time you sign in.
